The Cabinet has approved a five-year plan, which states 50 goals for Dubai, according to officials.
Ruler of Dubai His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum approved the plans on Tuesday.
UAE will set up a new system for governance of government and semi-government companies. Shaikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, will be supervising the system.
Under the governance system, companies will have to set up boards of directors as a supreme authority. The new system prevents the CEO from charring the board. Additionally, it obliges the boards to form committees tasked with investment assessment, risk management. Moreover, the boards should submit annual performance reports to the government.
The council endorsed an immediate embark on developing a comprehensive urban plan for the emirate. This will ensure that Dubai’s residents enjoy the highest quality of life. The government aims to provide the finest facilities for the emirate’s population.
Additionally, the government will set up a new Dubai Media Council chaired by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. “We have also approved the setting up of the Dubai Media Council, which will house the Dubai Media Office, media and production cities, studios, radio networks, television and newspapers as well as the Dubai TV and Film Commission. Our media competitiveness is crucial in the coming period,” the Dubai Ruler said.
New Urban plan for Dubai
The council approved strategies and mechanisms to develop Dubai’s economic system. For this, the government will add attractive sectors in a manner that ensures the emirate’s superiority, global competitiveness and investment attractiveness.
These decisions aim to develop a comprehensive and integrated work system with a looking-ahead vision to improve all areas of work and life in Dubai. This comes under the umbrella of the Dubai Council, in alignment with the “January 4 Document”, which Shaikh Mohammad had announced earlier.
Additionally, six commissioner generals have been appointed to oversee the strategic growth pillars. The Dubai Council will take the lead in six sectors that have been outlined in the document. These include economic and governmental developments, infrastructure development, improvement in the quality of life, justice and security, and health and knowledge.
In the document, Shaikh Mohammad pledged to continue work on the emirate’s development, consolidation of justice, and the improvement of life for future generations. Moreover, efforts will be taken for the rebuilding of institutional structures to set new goals and targets. This will ensure that real transformations in the emirate will maintain its superiority and leadership in the region.
The council also introduced the position of deputy general director for all Dubai departments. It has also approved the launch of a leadership program, which will be under the supervision of the Dubai Council. The program will train general directors and new CEOs. Meanwhile, a new central committee will approve leadership appointments in the emirate.
The programme will train and develop a new rank of director generals and CEOs to assume these positions.
