The inauguration of Museum of the Future has been the high talk of Dubai, with His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, officially opening doors on 22 February to the new iconic landmark with a message of hope for all humankind.
Noted as one of 14 most beautiful museums on Earth by National Geographic, the building is an architectural and engineering marvel.
Located in the Financial District along the city’s superhighway, Sheikh Zayed Road, the museum confidently straddles the past and the future, ‘applying advanced technology to traditional art-forms’.
Architecture & Design
The Museum of the Future was designed by Killa Design architects and engineered by Buro Happold engineering consultancy.
77 metres/225 feet tall
30,548 square metres
The façade is made out of stainless steel and consists of 1,024 pieces manufactured by a specialised robot assisted process; covering a total surface area of 17,600 square meters.
The surface is comprised of a canvas of quotes by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum rendered in the calligraphy of Mattar bin Lahej.
The iconic structure opens up a world of architectural styles away from the high-rise towers to decorate city skylines around the world.
The circular building represents humanity; the green mound it sits atop represents the earth; the void represents the unknown future.
A Look into the Future
The architectural marvel will provide the largest platform in the region to study, envision and design the future. It is a scientific and intellectual centre where the brightest talents in the fields of science, technology, research and innovation will converge to discover solutions to tomorrow’s world.
The Museum builds on the visionary culture that has transformed the UAE into one of the world’s most advanced nations in less than 50 years. It is a showcase for the spirit of courage, optimism and innovation that propels Dubai forward.
''The Museum of the Future reflects the philosophy of His Highness, as it will be a factory for futuristic ideas. This new civilized edifice will play a pivotal role in applying one of the main values established by His Highness during his 50 years of leadership. His Highness believes that the UAE is destined to be a model and play a positive role in this region and important role in reigniting the civilization of this region, which has been leading the world scientifically, cognitively and culturally for more than ten centuries. The Museum will continuously search for the latest technologies the future holds for us. It will be the largest laboratory for the technologies of the cities of the future, the communities of the future and the governments of the future,” said Mohammed Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Museum of the Future, in his keynote speech at the opening on 22 Feb.
The Museum combines elements of exhibition, immersive theatre and themed attraction. Each floor is like a film set from a future that you can inhabit, explore and interact with.
